Manga vs Anime

Sailormoon was originally created as a manga story by Naoko Takeuchi (Nah-oh-koh Tah-keh-oo-chee), and then turned into an anime. The drawing style is very different from one to the other, mostly because Ms. Takeuchi's drawings have such a flowing feel to them. Below are two examples of similar pictures between the anime & manga so you may compare.

As you can tell, the anime and manga drawings are quite different. The storyline is also different between the two. They have the same story at heart, but there are quite a few distinctions. It is like the difference between two tellings of a single fairy tale. You've heard a hundred different versions of Cinderella, right? In one version something happens one way, but in a different version it happens in another way.

The Sailormoon manga tends to have a deeper story, and there is not many repetitive stories like in the anime (with the "monster of the day"). Some examples of a difference in storyline include: In the manga, Rei and Mamoru never dated. Also, in the manga Sailormoon & Tuxedo Mask not only found out each other's identities, but had feelings for one another before they remembered their past love. Also, in the manga there are no rainbow crystals, the silver crystal simply appears out of her tear.
