Manga (mah-n-gah) | Manga is Japanese for a comic book. The stories are usually in black and white, but there are color drawings on the cover. Created by Naoko Takeuchi, the story of Sailormoon was originally a manga titled "Bishoujo Senshi SailorMoon". |
Anime (ah-nee-meh) | Anime is the Japanese word for animation. In the US, we use this to mean Japanese animation. Although when Americans say it, it's mangled to sound more like a hillbilly cousin... "Annie-May". X_x;; |
Bishoujo (bee-shoh-joh) | Shoujo means girl, and adding the "bi" to the front makes it "pretty girl." |
Senshi (seh-n-shee) | Senshi means warrior or soldier in Japanese. That's why they are called the "Sailor Senshi". |
Youma (yoh-mah) | A youma is a ghost or apparition. In Sailormoon, they use this term for the evil henchmen that are used by the enemy in the 1st season. |
Kawaii (kah-wah-eee) | Kawaii is the Japanese word for cute. You will see it often on various Sailormoon sites. ^_^ |
Konnichiwa (koh-n-nee-chee-wah) | Often mistaken as hello, Konnichiwa is a day time only greeting, meaning "good day". Japan does not have a word equal to hello. |
Konbanwa (koh-n-ba-n-wah) | Konbanwa is a night time only greeting, meaning "good evening". |
Ohayou (oh-ha-yoh) | Ohayou is a morning greeting, which means "good morning" of course! ^_^ |
Arigatou (ah-ree-gah-toh) | This word means "thank you". |
Chibi (chee-bee) | Well, I've heard that it means small child, but I've also heard that it means runt or dwarf... soo, take your pick! ^_^;; In either case, Chibi Usa's nickname means a small Usagi. |
Daisuki (dah-ee-skee) | Dai means "big" and suki means "to like", put them together and daisuki means "to like a lot." ^_^ (this can refer to an object or a person) |
Usagi (oo-sah-gee) | Usagi, Sailormoon's given name, means rabbit. ^.^ |
