. AIKO
If you are curious about my mascot, Aiko, she was basically created in a few minutes. I started out with an idea for her to look like a normal girl, but after one quick sketch I knew she needed her own costume with orange blossoms. I thought of a dress with a bottom made of flowers, but when I was about to draw it, I thought a bubble skirt would be cuter. I affectionately referred to her as "orange blossom girl" until I was able to decide on a name. I wasn't sure if I wanted the name to be Japanese at first, but I figured the rest of the site had Japanese titles, so why not her? I finally settled on Aiko Hanamori, which roughly means "Beloved Guard of Flowers." I blame parenthood.com if Aiko can't be translated as "beloved", since I got the meaning from their baby names list. ^_~ But, since "ai" means love, and "ko" is a girlish name suffix, I think it's close enough. ^.^

WEBSITE

This website was created in 2002 to host my artwork. I eventually wanted a website with no advertising banners, so I created OrangeBlossoms.net as a compilation site for OBS, my SailorMoon fansite, and my webcomics. I chose the name "Orange Blossom Studio" as a connection between my Floridian residence and my Japanese drawing style. Cherry blossoms are shown significantly in anime & manga and are representative of the Japanese. Orange blossoms are Florida's state flower, representing our tropical atmosphere. Therefore, I thought I would use the blossom reference for my artwork.

.
.ARTWORK

My current artwork focuses solely on anime/manga designs. I can draw realistic things, but it's not nearly as fun. (and what's the point of drawing if it's not fun?!) I became interested in anime around 1998 and have been drawing in that style ever since. I'm sure you will notice that I draw mostly girly or "pretty" pictures. That's what I enjoy most, it's what makes me happy. I love to draw flowing things, be it dresses or hair blowing in the breeze.
I took art & drawing classes all through high school, and was accepted into a respectable art college (which I left because I couldn't stand the way they taught... or should I say did NOT teach). I'd like to think I've taught myself a lot about drawing by studying people & their movements, and also studying how anime & manga creators design their characters.

ABOUT ME

As for myself, I am now in my mid 20's (gasp!) and am married to the most wonderful guy in the world! (four year anniversary in December! ^.^) Yeah, I always wonder if people assume I'm Asian because of my new last name... surprise, I'm not! ^^;; hehe But, I actually met my husband through Sailormoon! (he used to sell Sailormoon videos) Isn't that neat?! I think so, but that's because I love Sailormoon! That's my favorite anime/manga series, followed by Marmalade Boy and Hana Yori Dango. :D My favorite genre is shoujo (girl) stories, can you tell? ^^ My favorite color is light pink, and I adore kittens!
